Amazing Praia da Marinha Beach

With its beautiful beaches and warm, sunny climate, the Algarve is the most popular holiday destination in Portugal. The southernmost region of Portugal is a great place for anyone planning a beach holiday, with its whitewashed buildings, the villages of the Algarve are captivating places to visit too. Clean, lively, and surprisingly affordable, Southern Portugal offers a sunny vacation experience that you will remember for years.

The Marinha beach, named after Portugal’s Praia da Marinha Algarve, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal and the world. Erosion has indeed created a magnificent result in this long sandy cove.

Marinha beach on the south coast of Portugal the heart-shaped rock seen from the cliff is the icon that makes Marinha beach one of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve, however there are more beaches from which get confused like the Marinha Beach, namely Mesquita Beach and Buraco Beach.

In Vilamoura there are two beautiful beaches, ideal to enjoy the sun or long walks along kilometers of fine sand: praia of Vilamoura (also called praia da Marina) and praia da Falésia (praia da Rocha Baixinha). These beaches will also allow you to practice surfing, windsurfing, water skiing, jet-skiing and paragliding.

You will find in praia da Marina all kinds of bars and restaurants offering different atmospheres and varied maps.
A 30/40 km drive from Pinhal da Marina, visit some of the most emblematic beaches of the Algarve, such as Praia da Marinha, considered one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world thanks to its natural beauty and its golden rocks , unique in Europe. We also recommend a visit to Praia de São Rafael (Albufeira), Praia Grande (Armação de Pera) and Praia de Benagil (Lagoa), where you can admire the landscape from the top of the cliffs.

Long, steep stairs lead to a small cove; as you walk up the cliff line, visitors face a beach that extends west. The beach is surrounded by limestone cliffs with warm tones, highly fractured and cracked, which present a great diversity of curious rock formations: arches, caves, reefs and chasms. It is also important to note the diversity of marine habitats: rocky environments and seagrass fields are home to sea urchins and colored anemones, schools of black seabream and black seabream, curious octopus and cuttlefish, or delicate seahorses. You can go on an underwater course, accessible with mask and fins or with a scuba diving suit. Back on the mainland, let yourself be seduced by the orchid fields that bloom in the spring, visible near the picnic park at the top of the cliff, or on a hike on the discovery trail that crosses the cliffs between this beach and Vale Centeanes.

Praia da Marinha Algarve – Cliffs view
What’s great about Praia da Marinha is that before going down to the beach, it is possible to walk on the cliffs with fascinating views of all the cuts made by the erosion in the cliff.

Avoid high tide at Marinha beach.
The first time I went to Marinha Beach, I could not explore it. Indeed, as you can see in the photos below, the beach disappears almost entirely at high tide. The waves go up to the bottom of the cliff!

Since the cliff, I have even seen people have their stuff soaked or get stuck in one of the creeks …
